The weekend before Thanksgiving, we had our 13-year-old daughter’s good friend staying with us for a sleepover. We all snuggled on the couch with our bowls of popcorn — freshly decorated Xmas tree in view and fireplace properly lit up — for a bit of AMZN Prime and chill.

“Smiling’s my favorite!”

Elf was suggested as the first movie we could watch. Here’s a shocker — I had never seen this all the way through, only caught the very tail end of it in a bar on the TV five yuletide seasons ago. But the kids were adamant that I would like it, so I was game.

Additionally, I consistently get Buddy in every “Which Will Ferrell Character Are You” personality quiz that I’ve taken. So I finally saw it and LOVED IT! I’m sure everyone else Gen X and older has already repeatedly viewed this Jon Favreau-helmed film over the last two decades. Which, like the stocking of a child on Santa’s good list, was massively stuffed.

With a cavalcade of great A-listers, that is — most notably the iconic James Caan, and Peter Dinklage in a scenery-chewing turn. So suffice it to say, I can now see why both (1) Elf is a perennial pillar in the Xmas movie pantheon, and (2) everyone who knows me agrees I am
