It’s Fun to Spot Celebrities

And even more fun to have contact with them

I know I write on here about TV commercials a lot (like this one and this one), but please bear with me just one more time as this article will only mention the above TV advert starring Donald Faison and Zach Braff once. Then I promise I will move onto other celebrities who have come into my field of vision at a very close distance IRL over the decades, some I even got to meet and exchange words with! (If at any point you find this article is a bit TLDR then just skip to the end where I have saved the two biggest international mega high wattage celebrities for last 😃)

In 2004 or 2005, I was making my way to the concert venue at Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas to see Verve (I refuse to call them The Verve), when I saw the Scrubs bromance guys at a high roller table very up close. I remember Mr. Braff being a big Britpop fan from the excellent Garden State soundtrack he curated, so most likely they were there killing time and hopefully having a successful gambling session before the show. I was a fan of both Garden State and Clueless, so that was a bit of a thrill!

I’ve had particularly good luck with celeb sightings at other concerts too. Cuz a lot of them like indie music and actually mill about unescorted with us normal folks instead of hiding out the entire time in a VIP tent away from the plebeians. Elijah Wood was walking in front of me at a South/Elbow concert, and as I was checking out the merch table I saw Kiefer Sutherland at the Anna Waronker show. I was the biggest 24 binge watcher and I’ve loved Elijah ever since Radio Flyer, even before LOTR, so those two celebspottings were great for me even though we didn’t have eye contact or anything!

But as I said in the subtitle, of course it’s better when you actually meet them and they’re nice! I already talked about meeting Jarvis Cocker of Pulp at Coachella here, but I have even more fond remembrances of the time I met Kelly Osbourne after The Vines show. I was sitting in the balcony at The Troubadour but it’s a pretty small venue, so from there I could easily make out that Kelly was standing close to the front of the stage.

So once the house lights came back up, I went down there and waded my way through to where she was, just so I could tell her…
